Bustin Lose - Graffiti Competition, 1988

Bustin Lose was one of the first national graffiti events in the UK, held at Fossbank Car Park in York, where writers worked on walls in the same vicinity. Held in March, 1988, the graffiti competition was the result of local writers Keith Hopewell aka Part2ism and Mossey approaching the City of York Leisure services, following their inspiration from 1987’s Bridlington Street Art competition. Nobody expected the massive volume of writers to ascend, following an announcement on Mike Allen‘s national Hip Hop radio show.

The walls were adorned by many of the top names of the time from Newcastle, York, Manchester, Leicester, Nottingham, London, Birmingham and Sheffield.

Filmed by Martin Jones, who organised a coach from Birmingham, this is the only footage of the event in existence.

Writers included: Goldie, Part2, System, Style Stars, Solo One, TDK, The Social Aliens, Craze and Sefroc.
